profile

I originally trained as a Speech Therapist at Llandaff College, Cardiff, qualified in 1978 and then worked with children and adults for Warwickshire Health Authority for 12 years.

During a break from my career when I was bringing up my children, I often took them to art workshops. This motivated me to join an art class and later I achieved a certificate in painting and drawing from the Open College of the Arts. I always wanted to continue at a more intensive level and I joined the Fine Art degree course and obtained a BA with first class honours at Coventry University in 2008.

During my course I experimented with a wide variety of materials and techniques and then focussed on sculpture, working with wood, resin, plaster, wax and metal casting, papier mache and collage.

In November 2010, I was awarded the degree of Master of Arts with Distinction in Fine Art at Coventry University. During the two years of the course I developed a more profound appreciation of materials through the use of natural, intuitive processes. As my work has developed I have become aware of the influence of the Baroque and drapery on my practice.
